Neighbors on the Trail

We came upon some neighbor dogs, with whom Luna shares a back fence. Luna met Max and Mattie nose-to-nose for the first time.

MoriDogs on Vacation

There won't be any new MoriDogs for a week or so. Some of you already know that Luna is actually my daughter's dog. I took temporary custody last year when she went to Tokyo for a three-year work assignment. She was there during the earthquake and tsunami.  Luna's real mom is safe, if shaken up, and voluntarily flew to Hawaii for a while, where we have friends. I went to meet her on very short notice. Although it is truly Paradise here, internet connection is not what we expect in California. Luckily for both of my many readers, I have some miscellaneous MoriPhotos saved on the blog for just such an occasion. Here are a few recent ones that I have handy.

Luna and her cats are being well cared for at home, although you may not be seeing her on the trail for a while.

Mori Cats
I watched these two cats for a long time. It does look like they are hunting, but neither one caught anything that I saw.

It was clear what this cat was watching.  There is a bird at the top of the white post. But the Black Phoebe had a moat around it's perch, and was safe.

MoriHawk

Sometimes I think that the hawks are watching the cats who are watching the birds and gophers.

Back to the Beach

The dogs looked happy to be back at the beach after a day of closure for the tsunami warning.

Here's MoriDog #57, Sullivan. An Australian Shepherd, Sullivan came to Pacifica on a wild road trip from Missouri via Savannah, Georgia. At age 12, he has had a run of health issues, but he's doing better now.

Now that I've collected over 50 MoriDogs, it's becoming a challenge to get a new breed. Today, Luna and I came upon a Puli! I haven't seen one of them in years. This is Dylan, MoriDog #58.

Duke is an Australian Shepherd/Labrador mix. I'm always pleased to show a dog in full drool! He was rescued from the animal shelter, having been once returned for being "snippy." Duke isn't snippy at all! He was active as a young dog, but that's to be expected. His first owner likely had unreasonable expectations for him.  As MoriDog #59 Duke shares the house with his friend, Tipper, our next dog.

Tipper's first owner passed away, and Tipper the Bull Terrier had been tied up outside for several days before they both were found. Tipper has a inside home now, except for walks on the beach as MoriDog #60!

Go, Giants!! Buster Posey was born in Kentucky, very near the home of Daniel Boone. When he was younger, the coloring on his face was darker, which looked like a face mask, and might have contributed to his name. Buster Posey is MoriDog #61.

Old Friends Found at Mori Point

Luna and I got to talking the owners of this next group. It turns out that we knew each other at Terra Nova, and hadn't seen each other in 39 years. These Chihuahuas all have a hard-luck story, but they've got loving homes now. Their owner promised to check the blog, and leave a comment so that we could get the right name with the right dog--I knew that I would have trouble keeping this pack straight, but I did get the names and numbers: Brandy--#48, Leeza--#49, Ozzy--#50, Patty--#51 and Doug is #52.

Brandy, Leeza, Ozzy, Patty and Doug
One of them is sort of hidden, so here's a couple of solos. The one in the back left was really shy!

These next dogs all have owners that did NOT go to high school with me. But they're still very cute!
Izzy got her name in an unusual way. Her owners had picked her up in Oregon, and were driving home with her. Of course, they stopped many times for pee breaks. The driver would call out to the dogwalker, "Is she done yet?" This went on so many times, that it got corrupted to, "Izzshe dunyet?"  and by the time they got back home, the name "Izzy" had stuck. Izzy is MoriDog #54

MoriDog #55 is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix named Max. He has had two previous homes, and both times his owners lost their homes due to the economic troubles. Luckily, he found his way to a Ridgeback rescue organization, and "Third's The Charm" for Max. His owner assures me that this time, it's for good.

Rocko doesn't have any special story, but he did come from Oakland. Isn't it better over here, Rocko, now that you're MoriDog #56?

Neo and Zingo

I have a weakness for Golden Retrievers. There was a time when it seemed that every third dog I encountered was a Golden, including the pair that lived at my house. Recently, they appear to have dropped in popularity in favor of "little dogs." Now don't get me wrong--I love little dogs--but it was with great joy that Luna and I found Neo and Zingo. (Neo has the red halter.) Zingo is named for a Swedish soft drink, and Neo isn't named for the Matrix character, even if they share that name. Zingo, MoriDog #46 is a first cousin once removed to Neo, #47.

Wayward Garbage Cans Found

It seems that my garbage cans were intercepted by a quick-thinking neighbor across the street who saw them attempting to make a break for it, and grabbed them. Thank you for your concern in my time of need--they are now safely back inside the fence. Maybe I should get them microchipped.

Kancha was in an abandoned litter which found its way to the Redwood City Humane Society. His owner went to the shelter intending to adopt a female dog, but they talked her into this guy, and it seems to have turned out nicely, even if the males still outnumber the females in her household by about six-to-one. MoriDog #45 is a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, who thinks he is a lapdog. (Don't they ALL think that?)

Kancha

This little cutie is MoriDog #44. Chewy actually prefers to be carried on his walks out to the 'Point, but health comes first, so he has do at least part of it himself.

Has Anyone Seen My Garbage Cans?

This year, in the neighborhood near Mori Point, it seems that the windiest days are also garbage days.  When these two events converge, not only do the trash cans congregate at the end of the street like some plastic convention, but reams of loose papers blow out of their protective containers, and end up in the frog pond. Anyhow, if you have a double set of cans, slip me an email, OK? Mine are currently AWOL.

But you didn't come here to read about trash...You wanted DOGS!!

Happy doesn't quite look his name, but it's just because he is camera shy. Actually, he's a bit shy of most new situations. When he first saw Luna and me, he walked up to us and accepted an ear scratching, but when the camera came out, he got nervous and tried to hide. Happy was saved from an abusive situation, and fears objects in the hands of humans. His owner suspects that he had been beaten--I felt bad to have violated his comfort zone!  But his buddy Charlie gives him confidence when things get difficult. Happy is MoriDog #42.

Happy

Charlie, MoriDog #43, is Happy's walking buddy. He was a present to his owner, given to her after her previous dog passed away from old age at 18.
Charlie

Charlie seems to be saying, "Mom!!!! I don't wanna sit!! This mud is COLD!!!!" Happy bears the discomfort in stoic silence, as long as he doesn't have to look at the camera!
