In the meantime, here is a followup photo I've been saving of Copper, who is MoriDog #21. At our second meeting, we saw each other from a distance, and he was watching me as if to say, "Do I know you?" When I called his name, he shook his ears and came running, long leash dragging in the sand.
The sole purpose of this blog is to catalog the dogs I have encountered while walking my dogs. I started with Luna, the Greyhound. Luna has passed on, and after a pause that was much too long, Henley has filled that void. No humans, no ads, no causes: It's all about the dogs! All dogs appear here with the verbal permission of their owners.

Where's Luna?
If you are used to seeing Luna on the trail from time to time, it will be a little longer before you do. Luna has an injured paw, and needs another week or more to recover. Somehow, she broke a toenail off a the nail bed. Her vet says that they see two or three of these every week, and though initially painful, it's not dangerous. In the meantime, Luna waits by the door until she is walking solidly again.

Breaking out of the stereotype
Quick, what dog do you think of when I say, "Firefighter?" It probably wasn't a Silky Terrier, our MoriDog #76. But Holly has a the personality of a First Responder, even if she weighs less than Luna's smallest cat. Today, she was mainly occupied with not blowing away in the wind.

Dogs and Frogs
Buddy was out walking with Bobo (MoriDog#7) today. We were all hanging over the rail counting frogs, and I almost forgot to take a picture of him! MoriDog #75 is a Cattle Dog mix. He began life on a farm as a potential boar hunter, but his original owner gave up chasing wild animals, and Buddy found his way to Pacifica.

RainDogs
Luna and I dodged the clouds today, and ALMOST stayed dry! Luckily, the new MoriDogs came by before the rain did.
This is Meka. The woman at the other end of her leash told me that it is a Hawaiian name, and I forgot to ask its meaning. I also didn't ask for the spelling. But what I lack in interviewing skill, I make up for in the ability to research. I found that Meka translates to "Eyes," in Hawaiian. Well, Meka is a Brittany Spaniel, and the power of spaniel eyes is legendary, isn't it? Here's our MoriDog #72, with the irresistible eyes.
Sophie is MoriDog # 73. She is a Welsh Terrier from the Midwest, and Blue's walking partner.
Blue is a Tibetian Terrier, and she is named for her brilliant blue eye. Sophie and Blue's co-owner is allergic to dogs, but they have the type of coat that doesn't affect him. He is able to live with them, allergy-free. Blue is MoriDog #74.

Coyotes? Yes!
After Luna and I came back from our walk, I looked up at the crest of the second hill east of Mori Point, and saw a dog. At first I thought it was odd, because there really isn't a trail there, and the dog was off-leash. A moment later I realized that it wasn't a dog, but a coyote.
We were separated by enough distance that there wasn't any danger, but had we been on the upper trail, Luna and the coyote might have noticed each other. In my opinion, this makes an excellent case for keeping one's dog on a leash. If a gregarious unleashed dog were to see the coyote and approach it, the coyote might mistake friendliness for an attack. MoriDogs and their owners are an exceptionally courteous group, and always walk on the leash, but if it helps to save a dog, it's worth saying again. Use the leash!
Now, on to the MoriDogs!
Logan is a Great Pyrenees female, our MoriDog #69. I'm sure glad that I don't have the chore of brushing her!
MoriDog #70 is Porthos. Before he was rescued by ARF, Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation, he was on death row in an animal shelter. Now, he's a lively little resident of Rockaway Beach, who is Pekingese and...something else.
Lily is MoriDog #71, and Luna's neighbor. About 10 years ago she was rescued by a Maltese breeder in Sebastapol, a ungroomed mess with a litter of tiny puppies. The family that would provide her forever home had gone to see the breeder about another dog, but Lily seemed a perfect fit. They visited her several times until her puppies were weaned, and is now living happily ever after in Pacifica.

Charlie Loves Greyhounds
Charlie the Beagle was especially friendly toward Luna today. His owner's grandparents have two retired racing greyhounds, and Charlie always has a good time with them when he visits in Seattle. MoriDog #66 currently lives with two cats, and showed none of the hyper beagle-behavior that I have seen in some of his breed! And just look at those soulful eyes...

Dog Day Afternoon
When Luna and I go out just the two of us, we usually go in the morning. But now that Luna's real mom is back from Japan for at least a while, our routine has changed, and we have been going in the afternoon. Luna is meeting a whole new group of dogs.
Josie was adopted from Rocket Dog Rescue. At age eleven, her walks are slower now, and she was happy to pause to pose for this photo. In addition to being a Rocket Dog, she is now MoriDog #64.

MoriDog #65, Toby, is new to Pacifica, so we spent some time talking about the various vets in the area. Toby was much more interested in Luna. I guess he likes older women.
